Tips for Designing the Perfect Business Card for your Company

    January 18th 2012

    printed business cards

Although the need for business cards has taken a back seat of late, with companies increasingly familiarising themselves with technology based communication channels and applications due to the rapid growth in electronics and the increase in availability of the internet, their value cannot be ignored. It is important for businesses to make the best possible impression on potential clients and customers. Face to face interaction is always the best form of communication and by presenting an individual with a business card you are helping to raise you and your company’s profile whilst increasing awareness of your expertise and services. It is important for businesses to make the best possible impression on potential clients and customers. Carefully deigned business cards will help generate interest with your company and, ultimately, increase sales.

However, a badly designed business card can result in poor representation of your business. It is important to balance attractiveness with practicality when designing the perfect card for your company.

The fundamental information that needs to be present on any business cards is your name and the name of the company. Including your personal name will help to add a human element to the company and add credibility. Contact details, such as address, telephone number and email address. When handing an individual a business card you are expecting them to get in touch with you in the future so ensuring that you have included relevant and up to date contact details is essential. There’s little point inserting an email address that you don’t check regularly or supplying an office number without an extension number.

A logo of your business is also an essential element of a well-designed business card; however, care needs to be taken when applying this. The written information on the card will still be the most important part and so deterring attention away from this is not advisable. Try not to make the business card over crowded or cluttered as, although it may seem more visually appealing, it will appear less professional.

Choose colours and shapes that are consistent within your business. Cards don’t have to be rectangular, they can be almost any shape and size, however, remember that these cards need to be easily stored in people’s wallets, diaries or address books. A folded business card may look appealing but lacks practicality as it will become easily damaged.

Different types of metal can be used to make business cards and the choice of material you use will greatly depend on the image and background for your company. For instance, a metal card may not be suitable for a hairdresser but may be perfect for a builder or painter and decorator. It is important to think about what your company is offering and whether the right message is being portrayed using the cards. Treat these cards as a mini advertisement for your business.

Business cards are a great way of increasing communication between you and potential clients. They are of particular great use when in environments and events such as exhibitions and trade shows. There is always a place in business for a well-designed business card.

The Use Of Mobile Video Advertising In Business

    December 20th 2011

It goes without saying that advertising is a key component in any business plan. Over the years there have been many different methods and developments in the world of advertising and any business needs to have their finger on the pulse to make sure they stay at the top of their game. The days of billboard and print advertising being enough are long gone, and online advertising has taken over at the forefront of the industry. Even more recently, the advent of mobile video advertising has seen the emphasis shift even further towards mobile technology.

It’s important to realise that video advertising itself is nothing new. However in the past, it was mostly used on television and video streaming websites such as YouTube and Daily Motion. Recently, the smartphone industry has exploded in the sense that almost everyone owns one. This means that mobile video advertising has emerged as a leading method for companies to use to get their services out to a whole new customer base.

In the early days of mobile video advertising, an advert would be shown before the user was able to watch a video. Thankfully for viewers, these adverts can now be embedded into smartphone applications, meaning that they can be clicked on and accessed if they appeal to the user. It is questionable whether a user is likely to ever click on one of these adverts, so on certain videos they remain a mandatory predecessor to the desired content.

One key development that has aided the rise of mobile video advertising is the improvement in mobile internet. It’s safe to say that before 3G connectivity was introduced, the quality of mobile video streaming was extremely questionable. However, 3G and 4G connections have totally changed the way we see video streaming on mobile devices and, as a result, mobile devices are able to fully support an effective, profitable mobile video advertising campaign.

Another huge plus side to these campaigns in this day and age is the universal use of the Java platform. No matter whether the viewer has a Windows, Apple or Android device, the same advertisement can be shown and they can easily be directed to the product website with one click. This is particularly useful for businesses that may not have a dedicated team of programmers as they will only need to produce one advertising campaign.

A mobile video advertising campaign makes perfect sense for any company looking to maximise profits. With smartphones being one of the most popular gadgets on the market today, it really is an opportunity that businesses’ can ill-afford to miss out on.

How To Make Sure Your Business Software Is Not Breaking The Law

    November 29th 2011

Many companies are breaking the law, often without realizing it. In some cases, people may be vaguely aware they are using certain kinds of software illegally, but employ the applications so seldom they feel paying the software licensing fees would be a tremendous financial burden. However, improper use of software is stealing and subject to civil and criminal penalties. Software companies occasionally conduct audits and can determine the illegal use of their product. Proper software asset management is the process of monitoring a company’s use of software, and can reduce costs for business while maintaining complete legality.

Many people fail to see the value in software; since there are so many free applications available on the Internet, they feel software is akin to free broadcast television. They copy another person’s software, utilize his or her application key and install it on their own computer. In business, those who have bought an existing company may be using software to earn money commercially to which they have no license. Software asset management is designed to reduce the costs of information technology by eliminating unnecessary or redundant software, negotiating with companies for special licensing rates when software is seldom used, and monitoring employee’s use of company assets.

Software makes many routine tasks tremendously easy to accomplish. Companies often take the ability to perform routine accounting and management chores for granted, but this work would be very expensive if performed manually by employees. If a company does not use software, it should be uninstalled so employees cannot use it illegally. If a company seldom utilizes the software, it has the option of negotiating with the owner of the intellectual property or subcontracting the task to a company that is properly licensed.

Employee salaries are the greatest business expense for most organizations, and software-licensing fees have dropped considerably over the years. Software can perform the tasks of many people quickly and efficiently. For these reasons, companies should manage their software usage and pay the necessary fees. Since many organizations may not realize exactly what software they are using, they should utilize software asset management programs to monitor the situation. This professional software can save money by making sure the number of copies installed matches the number for which companies are paying.

Business can realize additional savings by negotiating volume contracts, eliminating underused programs and reallocating the work. Efficient management monitors employee use of software and helps businesses choose the right software for each job. When a company maintains an accurate list of software, they can institute appropriate regulations regarding its deployment and use throughout the organization. Security issues are also addressed to enhance corporate efficiency at all levels. Software management tags simplify the discovery process if an audit of software use is conducted. It is imperative that companies using software understand exactly what they are using and why they need it in order to streamline the process. Companies should pay for legitimate use to avoid legal consequences if caught using software improperly.

10 Business Tips from 10 Successful Entrepreneur

    November 11th 2011

It makes a lot of sense that the best way to learn about business is to learn from those who have succeeded in business – after all, these people understand exactly what it takes to succeed, whatever their chosen field may be. Entrepreneurs are not always the most recognised names either, and many wealthy and successful business people have made their fortune without being in the public eye.

Top Business Tips from Those in the Know

Whether you are planning on starting your own business, or you would simply like to do better in your current business, every single person can benefit from business tips that offer insight into things to try, things to avoid and how to go from proceeding to succeeding. Entrepreneurs from a wide range of industries share their top tips for business success, which include the following words of wisdom:

    1. 1. Safe bets are not always the answer

Someone may advise you about an investment, but that doesn’t mean it is a good opportunity. Really good opportunities prompt people to keep the information for themselves to take advantage of the offer.

David Niu – sold a company to aQuantive and is co-founder of BuddyTV

    1. 2. You can buy, start or grow a business to make it succeed

Starting a business isn’t the only option you have. You could find a good business to buy, grow and sell it for huge profits too. This is often less risky than starting a business from scratch.

Ben Huh – bought I Can Has Cheezburger

    1. 3. Having money doesn’t mean spending it all

You do not have to overspend to grow your business. Careful budgeting is essential, and finding cost-effective options such as sub-letting a small office space to start your business is the best way to save money while you are growing your business.

Andy Liu – sold a company to aQuantive and co-founder of BuddyTV.

    1. 4. Invest in yourself

Spending money on yourself is the best way to motivate yourself to keep working and making more money. Saving every dime won’t always remind you why you are striving to become a millionaire so invest in yourself once in a while.

John Reese – email marketing guru and Lamborghini owner.

    1. 5. Stand tall and have courage

Don’t be scared to stand up for your goals and confront others who try to stand in the way of your success. The more you let other people boss you around, the more you will start to second guess your judgement, which will ultimately affect your business negatively.

Jeremy Schoemaker – sold a company to MediaWhiz and made $132,994.97 from Google in a month.

    1. 6. Raising venture capital is not an easy task

A venture capitalist often has no idea about the investments brought to them. Make the investor feel that they are able to make a contribution to your company and if you can show growth, the investor will see that funding you is an investment.

Guy Kawasaki – writer, entrepreneur and venture capitalist.

    1. 7. Success isn’t always about being first

Don’t lose heart if you miss out on a great opportunity. You do not always have to be first in the race, and by keeping an ear out for new opportunities on a regular basis, you will find the right one at the right time.

Alex Algard – investor and founder of Whitepages.com.

    1. 8. Fame is not always the best thing

Fame in the form of publicity and hype may seem like a good goal, but it can also cause your company to get too much attention. This increases competition and puts you in the spotlight. Staying on the down low as you build your fortune is a far better option.

Edward Yim – sold a company to Marchex and founded a successfully stealth company.

    1. 9. Don’t make assumptions about people

Whether you meet a Harvard MBA or a homeless person, don’t assume that people should be judged. Treat everyone fairly, and remember that you don’t know who might become a millionaire next.

Geoff Entress – made millions by investing in companies that either went public or were bought out.

    1. 10. Follow successful people

You can learn a lot from other successful people, and it is always a good idea to get business tips from those who have the experience and understanding that comes from making it big. Learn whatever you can, and use their tips to help grow your own fortune.

Mr. C – invested early into a company that went public with a 30 billion dollar market cap.

    Author Bio:

Laura Banton researches and writes about a number of millionaire secrets and strategies. To discover how to become a millionaire, be sure to attend millionaire seminars and learn as much as you can from the millionaires who have made it big.  http://www.millionairemindevents.com

    (A)   Is what I’m doing in accordance to the plan working?

    (B)   Or is this new direction more beneficial?

Once you have established the answer you will know whether to amend the business plan in this section or move back on track. Business Plans should be at least reviewed annually if not earlier. Trends are continuously changing and aspects of the complete business will need to be continually tweaked.

How should I create my business plan?

There is no hard and fast rule when it comes to creating a business plan there are many ways you can do this. There are many books available with guidelines and if followed will allow you to create your own business plan. The least preferred way is to create a business plan based on how you see the business to your own constringent.  The other way if you can afford it is to buy a business plan which has already been created or to have someone create a business plan tailored to your needs.

Either way the main point to this is that you must have a business plan to give yourself every chance at success. The thing is when you put your ideas down on paper they hold you more accountable. The more likely you are to carry out and remember why you have started the business. Business is both fun and challenging and we are all in business for ourselves in some way.
